- EVENING STAR - An acrylic painting on a 16 x 20 size canvas board. It was a private commission.
I was asked by an art collector to paint a fictional exotic queen from ancient times, and once again I turned to the novels of H. Rider Haggard for inspiration. Haggard wrote his ancient mysteries in the late 1800s, when there were still large, unexplored areas on Earth, and his novels reflect that "mystery of the unknown" .
One of Haggard's famous fictional "queens" was "SHE," (Ayesha) who had the secret of eternal life. He wrote four novels about Ayesha, also known as "She who must be obeyed"; They were;
"She,"
"Ayesha, the Return of She,"
"She and Allan,"
"Wisdom's Daughter". (about Ayesha's early life)
